Cursory Indicator New York™ (CI NY) is a proprietary New York state criminal history record search exclusive to Commercial Investigations LLC (CI).

CI begins all of our background checks with Origin™.

We us Origin™ (SSN Trace) to confirm your applicant's identity, including their Social Security Number, name, and date of birth.

This ensures an accurate starting point for the background check.

Step 2: Address History Check

An investigator reviews the subject's address history to determine if they have lived in New York State within the past 10 years, making them eligible for Cursory Indicator NY™.

Step 3: Cursory Indicator NY™

If the subject meets the residency requirements, we conduct a Cursory Indicator NY™ criminal history record search.

This queries the Sheriffs' booking data to identify any potential misdemeanor or felony convictions across the state.

At CI, we’ve determined that about 8.5 – 9 out of every 10 Cursory Indicator NY searches return no adverse information.

Step 4: Verification & Additional Searches (if needed)
